Our Suttons Bay store is now permanently closed while we look for a new location for Laughing Fish Gallery. You can currently find our art at Ruth Conklin Art Gallery in Glen Arbor, Pier Joy in Ludington and right here, online! If you’re in Traverse City you are welcome to visit our Studio/Showroom to see our art in person. Schedule a showing here.

Mother & Daughter Artists

Making & sharing happy art together.

At Laughing Fish Gallery, we’re all about creating art that makes you smile! Shelly Drews has been carving and painting her signature Laughing Fish since 2014, using a bandsaw to bring each one to life. Her bright, happy designs are full of personality & are sure to put a smile on your face.

Kirstie, the artist behind Echo Foxx Design, paints dreamy watercolor landscapes and rustic pine trees on wood, capturing the beauty of Northern Michigan. Together, we pour our love for art and nature into everything we create—bringing a little piece of joy from our world to yours!

Wanna Shop In-Person?

We’ve been brainstorming ways to make shopping our art more accessible, especially for those of you who loved visiting our gallery in Suttons Bay and we totally understand that sometimes online shopping just isn’t the same. So here’s what we’re thinking: what if we hosted a mini open house art fair right here in our in-home studio in Traverse City?

It would feel just like a smaller version of the Laughing Fish Gallery, with a cozy setup and all the artwork you know and love—just in a more personal space. We’re considering setting regular weekend hours throughout the summer so you can stop by and shop in person, no appointment needed.

We’ve done private studio visits before, but this would be more of a recurring pop-up event. Would you be interested? We’d love to hear your thoughts! Be sure to sign up for our newsletter below to stay updated. Email us with your questions or any thoughts you might have!

Happy Art for A Happy Home.

We first opened Laughing Fish Gallery in the charming town of Suttons Bay in 2019, pouring our hearts into creating a space filled with joy, color, and creativity. For nearly six years, we loved sharing our art with visitors from near and far. But after Kirstie’s son was born in 2023, we realized that balancing motherhood and the demands of running a physical gallery was becoming more challenging. In late fall of 2024, we made the tough decision to close our brick-and-mortar shop. While this chapter has closed, our passion for creating hasn’t changed! We’re still making and sharing our art online, bringing the same love and creativity to every piece; just with a little more flexibility for family and new adventures.

Creating art takes time and each piece is a labor of love, from the first sketch to the final wire eye on each fish. Whether it’s Shelly carving and painting her whimsical fish or Kirstie weaving a sunset inspired tapestry, every creation is made with care and creativity. We believe that art isn’t something to rush; it’s a process of inspiration, craftsmanship, and joy. While we may not always have a huge inventory, every piece we offer is made with heart, and we’re so grateful for the patience and support of those who appreciate the time it takes to create something truly special.
